The joy of self-discovery

Swirling, ever onwards, upwards.
Soaring outwards, flying free.
Floating on the breeze, a spark, an ember.
Crying out in gladness "This is me"
"THIS is me".

About The Project

The topic periwinkle/swirl instantly made me think of swirls of blue mist, which started me thinking about something being hidden in the mist.

As I have been reading the book "Are you a unicorn?" this got me thinking of the true self being hidden, and how recently I had been making leaps of discovery about my true self. How sometimes one experiences a period of immense elation and pure joy as one experiences a glimpse of self recognition. These thoughts brought the poem into my head.

This idea behind this image therefore, was to try and express this moment of joy at awakening. As I can't draw mist I decided to contain the swirl in periwinkle coloured ribbons. And as I often use either faeries or unicorns to symbolise how I feel inside and I can't draw unicorns, I used faeries to symbolize the rising and eventual breaking free of the joyfull spirit.

This is the first of my colours projects to use any of my own sketches, the ribbons, the faeries and the leaves were all sketched, scanned in then digitally coloured. The flowers of course are periwinkle's
